Five miles on the trail this morning. 765 miles to date. More than half way through Indiana.
The Hoosier National Forest is amazing large in the south section of the state. A lot of "leafers" from Louisville metro make a Fall trip into this area of Indiana. One of Indiana's best-known driving tours in the fall is the Parke County Covered Bridge Trail, which takes visitors by the area's 32 historic covered bridges. The bridges in these west central Indiana communites were built between 1856 and 1920, and all are listed in the National Register of Historic Places

Walked 5 miles on treadmill due to rainy weather. Total miles todate - 760. Nearing Bedford, IN. on route 50. Noted that I burned 893 calories today according to the machine based on speed and weight. That seems high. I conservatively estimate 100 calories per mile. Which would be 76,000 burned this year on my attempt to "walk America". 3,500 should equal a pound lost. Divided into 76,000 = 21.7 pounds lost in theory. I am about 19 pounds
less that the beginning of the "trip". But, there has been a transfer of some fat to muscle.
Still, walking (exercise) builds an appetite! So there is always the "food choice".

Day of rest. Went to reunion which is called a "homecomming" in Jackson County, WV. Someone asked my Dad who is 93 if thought he was going to live to be a hundred. He replied, "If I do, it going to be a hell of a hard seven years".

Brownsville, IN - 755 miles

Walked 10 miles today on the trail in high humidity and heat. Now at 755 miles and near Brownstown, IN. Main Street in Brownville is Route 50 and there is a nice family restaurant here that promotes catfish dinners with Lima beans, I am told. Noticed this "home remedy" yesterday - "You only need two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape."

Walked 4.5 miles in Clarksburg Veterans Park. Total miles to date - 739.5. Thinking about the excellent results of lab test and my exam and recalled this quote: "Good health is merely the slowest rate at which one can die" Which leads me to another quote: "Don't ask me how he died, ask me how he lived"

North Vernon history:

North Vernon was third in the state for railroad traffic the Ohio & Mississippi that later became the Baltimore & Ohio railroad (B. & O.). The Pennsylvania and New York Central of Big Four all met in town. All three of these railroads had passenger depots. There were also two freight depots in town. General Info

Heart rate 49 early this morning. Weight about the same. Walked 9 miles. Just passed through Aurora and heading toward Dillsboro, IN. "About Aurora
Aurora is a small town rich in charm. Its old river town character makes this city unique amidst the surrounding communities. There is a strong sense of history as you walk through the streets of town. The buildings remind you of a romantic age gone by. The church steeples are rising to the sky and the city is nestled amongst the wooded hills. Not many cities have succeeded in retaining their original appeal as Aurora has done. In essence, this is what makes Aurora a desirable destination, and a great community in which to live, work, play and raise a family. Aurora is rich in religious values, having 7 large churches in the downtown area alone. The educational structure within Aurora includes parochial, private and public education. Aurora and Dearborn County have a home school support structure in place as well. "

Walked nine miles today. Weather cool and had no problem. However, I am looking forward to my rest day tomorrow. Total milage - 664. Just entering Indiana from the Cincinnati area.
Large area race and racewalk was held yesterday in Wheeling (Debbi Green Classic,) and it appeared that I could have won my age group (60-69) by over a minute if I had entered. But, I am sticking to my pledge not to do any competitive racing until I reach 195 pounds and build my endurance base.
