Kieffer Walks Across America - Via Virtual

On January 1, 2004, I began my virtual walk across America following U.S. Route 50 in my road atlas. I tranfered to this on-line journal in Jul 04. The trip started at Ocean City, Maryland, and ended in San Francisco, Dec 14th, 2009. (3,127) miles. Recorded in this weblog was miles walked, destinations reached, interesting links, and personal reflections. Stopped and restarted a few times, but enjoyed the trip - venturing along this transcontinental Main Street.

Like the back of a huge animal

Illinois, The Prairie State. Note: highest point above sea level is 1, 235 feet (Charles Mound) Some info on the prairie in this state and some personal thoughts by early travlers : Prairie:Introduction. Walked 5 miles today. Took a day off yesterday.
